The UK tax office has started sending letters to foreign companies about tax liabilities for holding commercial property in the UK.
His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs’ letter prompts foreign companies to complete a certificate to confirm whether they need to make a disclosure of unpaid tax in the UK.
“We have a strong track record of tackling offshore non-compliance. We’re sending these letters to help identify and tackle tax non-compliance by offshore entities owning UK property,” an HMRC spokesperson said.
