Uber, Lyft Driver Pay Raise Approved by Minneapolis Council (1)

Minneapolis would mandate minimum pay rates for Lyft and Uber drivers under an ordinance awaiting the mayor’s signature that would make the city one of only a few in the US to set minimum driver pay.

The proposed ordinance (No. 2023-00044), which the Minneapolis City Council passed Thursday on a 7-5 vote, would require rideshare companies to pay drivers inside the city at least $1.40 per mile and $0.51 per minute for time spent transporting a customer, and no less than $5 per ride, effective Jan. 1.
