Timberland, Sawmill Facility Fined $200,000 After Worker Death

A south Arkansas timberland and sawmill facility faces $218,759 in proposed penalties and has been cited with four serious violations after a 39-year-old employee was fatally injured at the company’s Bearden location, the Labor Department said Wednesday.

A worker at Anthony Timberlands Inc. was cleaning beneath an automated lumber stacking machine when its hoist table fell on them. After conducting an investigation, Occupational Safety and Health Administration inspectors found that stacking system was installed without barrier devices.
