Standard Chartered, US Beat Bid to Reopen Iran Sanctions Suit

A whistleblower’s False Claims Act suit accusing Standard Chartered Bank of violating US sanctions against Iran was properly targeted for dismissal by the Department of Justice, the Second Circuit affirmed Monday.

The government’s decision to seek dismissal of Brutus Trading LLC’s suit satisfied the FCA, which requires prosecutors to give a whistleblower notice of a motion to dismiss with opportunity for a hearing on the motion, the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit said in a nonprecedential summary order.
