New Balance Athletics Inc. sued Golden Goose USA Inc. alleging infringement of the trade dress of its 990 model “dad shoe” sneakers to create a “confusingly similar” pair of shoes called the “Dad-Star.”
The “grey” colorways and name of Golden Goose’s $625 model are “intended to capitalize on and free-ride off of the success that New Balance has achieved with its 990 model shoe and its brand,” according to the complaint filed Aug. 18 in the US District Court for the District of Massachusetts.
