Fidelity & Guaranty Life Insurance Co. failed to protect more than 873,000 people’s personal information that was exposed in a data breach connected to a cyberattack on Progress Software’s MOVEit file-transfer application, a proposed federal class action said.
Isaac Hanson alleged that Fidelity & Guaranty could have prevented the breach if it had better secured its network, encrypted its data, or better chosen its technology partners.
The company also failed to provide timely notice of the breach to victims, depriving them of the opportunity to take quick measures to protect themselves and mitigate harm, it said.
