European Union Gazettes EC Decision Expanding Italian State Aid Regime for Road Haulage Sector Due to War

The European Union Official Gazette Aug. 18 published the European Commission (EC) decision on State Aid Case No. SA.108572, approving amendments to the Italian state aid regime to support the road haulage sector, effective until Dec. 31, due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. The decision includes measures to: 1) increase the budget of the existing aid by 200 million euros (US$217 million); and 2) expand the scope of the regime by introducing an additional tax credit equal to 12 percent of qualifying expenses incurred in the second quarter of 2022, for the purchase of diesel fuel for eligible vehicles.
