A federal district court in Massachusetts granted in part and denied in part Wayfair LLC’s motion to dismiss Alto Dynamics LLC’s action for infringement of patents pertaining to searching and manipulating a database, monitoring the usage patterns of users of a system, serving advertisements to users, and enabling a user’s access to resources. The court said that claims of one patent arguably contain an inventive concept and therefore may be patent-eligible, but that the remaining patents are directed to abstract ideas and don’t contain inventive concepts.
